With money and hope in short supply, newly minted attorney Brigham Theodore decides it’s time to lower his standards. He joins a seedy fly-by-night firm in Salt Lake City out of desperation. After he loses his first case—a speeding ticket—he’s convinced his career is over. But to his shock, his boss hands him a slightly more complex case: capital murder.

Brigham’s new client is Amanda Pierce, a lost, exhausted woman who gunned down the man who tortured and killed her six-year-old daughter. A jury may prove sympathetic to her unbearable pain, but the law is no fan of vigilante justice—and neither is Vince Dale, the slick and powerful prosecutor who’s never lost a murder case. There’s no question that Amanda pulled the trigger—she did it in front of five witnesses. If she pleads guilty, she will avoid a death sentence, but saving her life this way comes with an admission that what she did was wrong. However, if she refuses the “guilty” label, Brigham will have no choice but to fight for his career—and Amanda’s life.

This is an intriguing read - I love legal thrillers and the central character and court room action will have you gripped if this is your genre. I only gave it three stars as it was very short - it felt unfinished as other than the central character the other characters were under developed and there seemed to be the start of plot areas which did not go anywhere. It could have been a brilliant book if the author had fleshed out his other characters and put in some sub-plots. I would try other books by this author, just to see if he develops them better. Overall, it is stil engrossing - short but sweet!

I really loved this book by a completely new author to me! The story, which I understand, was based on a true event was brilliantly written and as the author is a defense lawyer it was accurately orchestrated and easy to read and understand how the American trial system works! I read this in a day as I could not put it down and look forward to the next from Victor Method.

I bought this book because it was on special offer, not thinking it would be great. But it took me by surprise - I just couldn't put it down. The characters were real and I cared what happened to them so the book drew me in in a way that hasn't happened since I last read a John Grisham novel. I am excited to discover an author whose work is intelligent, carefully scripted and has a totally-believable hero. I sincerely hope that his next book is as good as this one as I am just about to find it and buy it.

The kind of book you know the ending of just by reading the back cover. However, the entertaining bit is how the plot and characters are woven together. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and will now read more from Victor Methos.

Better than Grisham as just enough legal detail but still has the human element to keep you hoping. Here's to hopefully (read this and you will know what that means).

Well worth spending the time to read this exciting book in which the David and Goliath story is laid out well. Very emotive with a good ending that comes too soon!
