I found this manual really informative and entertaining. It offers an original take on some of the reasons why people who really want to stop smoking may hold back - 'I want to get to the point where I've stopped, but am worried about doing the stopping'. It explains the addiction process, and suggests a variety of techniques that can help you to overcome addiction and ignore cravings. Straight-talking is mixed with some wry humour, and I would recommend it to others who would like help to stop smoking.

This book is written in a very easy style to read. It is not just for the person wanting to give up smoking but also full of great information for therapist like myself helping people give up. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted help either giving up or wanted to expand their knowledge base to help their clients become non smokers.Every time I read a bit more I want to finish the whole book and absorb all the information.

I am a therapist with some experience in the smoking cessation field and so tend to be very outcome focused without necessarily understanding why people become addicted and why hypnotherapy particularly can be so effective at helping people to stop smoking. This manual details in layman's terms why people become addicted to nicotine and outlines the various interventions that can be used to help them stop permanently. It makes clear the consequences of smoking and lays out all the arguments for and against becoming a non-smoker. I can honestly say I learnt a lot from this book and would recommend it to people who feel the time has come to become a non-smoker as well as therapists engaged in smoking cessation.

I was given this book to read by a Clinical Hypnotherapist that I went to see for smoking cessation through the National Smoking Cessation Institute. It complimented my therapy perfectly and made me look at my addiction in a new way. I am so glad to have read it as now I feel I fully understand my reasons for smoking. I've not smoked for 3 years now and I use the book to keep me on track whenever I need it.Its a really interesting read and very humorous which kept my attention. I whole heartedly recommend it and advise any reader to stick with it as you can do it! (I have) :)

I am a hypnotherapist specialising in helping smokers to stop, and with years of experience I thought I knew everything I needed to know on this subject, but the Manual showed me totally new ways of helping smokers and I'm so grateful for it. It has improved my practice greatly, and I feel very happy to pass on my new-found knowledge to my clients, knowing that I am now helping them in a way I couldn't before. I would recommend it to therapists and smokers alike.

This book is what every smoker who wishes to return to being a non-smoker should read. It explains clearly the consequences of smoking and how the addictive nature of nicotine affects the individual. I find that in my work as a Clinical Hypnotherapist the book complements the hypnotherapeutic treatment for smoking cessation and would recommend it to therapists as well as to individuals who have decided that the time is right to stop smoking.

The Stop-Smoking Manual from the NSCI is a very interesting book that delivers a serious message in a light harted way. The reader is left in no doubt about the devastation to health and personal lives caused by smoking. Lots of practical advice and all the factual information that you need to set you on you way towards becoming a non-smoker.

I think it's a really interesting book. I think the cover puts you off a bit, because it looks like it's going to be a bit boring, but once you get started it's actually funny. I was surprised that a book about stopping smoking would be funny, but whatever - it kept me reading it. And I stopped smoking.
